Synopsis
Three tales that occurs within a line of a long continuous time.
It all began in the state of Kedah in the early 70’s, Jah Mahadi and friends were fixated upon their dreams about the city of Kuala Lumpur, their fascination and fantasy were big and if there ever was a chance of achieving fame, one must migrate to the big city, and so they did, all becoming the citizen of the city in hopes of achieving their dreams and grasping upon the chances that each of them might encounter.
In 2009, a group of youngsters ponder feverishly upon the difficulties of projecting their life in the metropolitan city that is Kuala Lumpur, for them Kuala Lumpur is an illusion and congested. But at the same time Kuala Lumpur is their hopes, dreams and ambition that is filled with unending chances. In their pursuit of hopes and dreams in Kuala Lumpur they forget that is the city itself is in an unending race which paces at a rate faster than they could comprehend.
While journeying across the parallel life of these two tales from the 70’s to the millenium, comes the many tales of the travel from the sons and daughters of the state of Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, in fact these tales cover the very vision that can be seen throughout Malaysia, shared experiences, shared hopes and dreams upon their very views of Kuala Lumpur.
What is the meaning of Kuala Lumpur to a group of rural artist? What lies behind the meaning of Kuala Lumpur for the group of the educated mass that has lost its way? What does Kuala Lumpur means when it addresses a citizen in this very nation? What do we search for in the city that open its arms to everyone and turns no one away.
These tales intertwine but does not meet, a tale with a beginning but has no ends. It repeats and revolve around the same circle of time, and turn in the tides of chances, the hopes and dreams of man upon the city of Kuala Lumpur.
Tiga kisah yang berlaku dalam satu garis masa yang panjang.
Di sebuah kampung di negeri Kedah pada awal 70-an, Jah Mahadi dan teman-temannya takjub sekali dengan segala impian mereka mengenai Kuala Lumpur. Fantasi mereka begitu besar, kalau mahu menjadi ternama, haruslah berhijrah ke kota besar itu. Berhijrahlah mereka semua menjadi warga kota, mencari peluang dan mencapai impian masing-masing.
Pada tahun 2009, sekumpulan anak muda berkeluh-kesah tentang kesukaran merencanakan hidup di kota metro ini. Bagi mereka Kuala Lumpur adalah dusta dan sesak. Tapi bagi mereka juga, Kuala Lumpur adalah peluang, impian dan harapan. Dalam pada mereka cuba mengejar segala impian dan harapan di Kuala Lumpur, mereka lupa bahawa Kuala Lumpur juga lebih pantas mengejar mereka.
Manakala merentasi garis masa kedua-dua kisah ini, dari 70-an hinggalah ke millenium, pelbagai kisah anak rantau dari Terengganu, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, malah seluruh Malaysia dapat dilihat – dan mereka mengongsi pengalaman impian dan harapan mereka terhadap apa yang mereka lihat sebagai Kuala Lumpur.
Apakah erti Kuala Lumpur bagi sekumpulan seniman kampung? Apakah maksud Kuala Lumpur bagi sekumpulan anak muda yang berpendidikan tetapi kehilangan arah? Apakah makna Kuala Lumpur bagi setiap satu rakyat di negara ini? Apakah yang kita cari di sebuah kota yang sentiasa membuka tangannya menerima sesiapa dan apa saja?
Semua kisah ini berkait tetapi tidak bertemu, berpangkal tetapi tidak berhujung, ia berulang-ulang dalam satu lingkaran yang sama, berpusar-pusar dalam arus peluang, impian dan harapan manusia, terhadap sebuah ibu kota – KUALA LUMPUR.
