Item #2

  • Title:Nyanyian Bumi
  • Item Synopsis / Program Notes:

Inspiration came when Pei Ern did a photoshoot with photographer, Joie Koo at Recce in Tanjong Sepat Selangor. Despite the aesthetically pleasing scenery, the barren and lonesome atmosphere of the isolated beach was reminiscent of a graveyard; gloomy, peaceful and tranquil.

The only people on site, it also seemed as though Pei Ern and her photographer had intruded upon a sacred place. The unity experienced with the physical elements of that environment and the clarity present, however, was unmistakable.

As both a choreographer and dancer, Pei Ern relishes the challenges of expressing the intricacies of these feelings, and the profound relationship between nature and man in Nyanyian Bumi; a dance production in collaboration with Aco Ridwan, an artist and rare practitioner of Sureq Galigo, and Atsuki Heki, a contemporary and traditional Japanese dancer and choreographer.
