The Malay Shorthand Association called on the Government to ban ‘yellow culture’ including striptease, twists, rock n roll, and the hula hoop. The call appears to have been prompted by the inclusion of belly dancing in the Merdeka Day Celebrations that year. New Straits Times, 8 Sept 1962.
