Organised by All Women’s Action Movement (AWAM), directed by Ann Lee, the ‘V-Day’ staging of Eve Ensler’s play was produced as part of an International Women’s Day fundraising event. The performance permit was denied by DBKL. Consequently, the play was staged as a private event. A recording of the performance was made with the knowledge of the organisers. However, the following morning, the video was unilaterally discarded by the organisation’s leadership, for fear that the evidence would incriminate the organisation. This was a controversial decision, made without consultation with the director or cast. During mediation, an apology was made by the organisers. (Source: Ann Lee).
