Two days before the opening of Balai Seni Lukis’s 1st International Video Art Festival, some members of Balai’s Board of Directors raised concerns that Wong Hoy Cheong’s work, which dealt with the Japanese Occupation of Malaya, would offend the Japanese government. PG Lim, also a Board Member, supported the work however, and called the Japanese Embassy in KL for their opinion. The Embassy noted that it had no objection to the work, and it was included in the exhibition.
