Singapore group, Teater Kami, had its maiden production in Malaysia, ‘Merdekanya Kita’ cancelled when its performance permit application was rejected two days before it was to open at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre. The Malaysian authorities denied the permit becuase the play ‘touch [s] on the sensitivities of Malaysian society, especially its political and social aspects’.
