Muslim girls above the age of 15 were banned by the Kelantan state governemnt from performing in arts or cutlural performances in the state. Menteri Besar, Nik Aziz Nik Mat said that “the inclusion of female participants in cultual peformances was un-islamic and should be stopped.” Girls below the age of 15 were free to perform.
