‘Apa Khabar Orang Kampung’ by Amir Muhammad

Amir Muhammad’s documentary about exiled Malaysian communists living in South Thailand was ‘not approved for viewing’ by the Film Censorship Board (which in under the purview of the Home Ministry). The Board cited seven reasons, including ‘inaccurate facts to depicting the government in poor light’. Amir’s appeal against the ban was rejected. The film remains officially banned in Malaysia. It has been screened outside of the country however, including at several film festivals.
