A Streetcar Named Desire’ by Tennessee Williams

The Actors Studio’s production of Tennessee Williams’ play received a performance permit. After the opening however, a review, published in a local tabloid, criticised Ramona Rahman, a Muslim, who in her role as Stella, kissed the male actor playing Stanley, Andrew Leci. In response, DBKL censored several scenes, and barred close physical contact between the characters on stage. Following the incident, DBKL officers had to watch a full preview of all shows before the performance permit would be granted.
