A Modern Woman Called Ang Tau Mui 紅豆妹 (2015)

Synopsis

The night opens with audiences serenaded by the evocative music of Lin Dai, Hong Kong’s undisputed Movie Queen. The beautiful, glamorous and multi-talented Lin Dai is the idol of many young women all over the region, including Leow’s title character, the passionate young Ang Tau Mui.

We are introduced to this funny, poignant story of hope, with Ang Tau Mui’s story about going shopping on the day she dies. She sees many things she wants, but doesn’t know what to buy. She runs from place to place, looking and searching, as she travels through time, revisiting the house she grew up in, taking a break at a deli, watching a movie in a cinema, riding a mini bus and seeking comfort in a temple. She talks to us about what makes her happy and sad, who she sees herself as, what her favourite food is and what her longings are. But in the end, does she find what she’s looking for?
