The le Corsaire pas de deux is one of the most famous showcase pieces in classical ballet today, often performed in international ballet galas and competitions. The variation is meant to show off the lyricism and grace of the lead ballerina, a beautiful maiden named Medora, who is rescued by the pirate Conrad from being sold to a Pasha.
