Item #2
- Title:From Soho To Shinjuku
- Item Synopsis / Program Notes:
The downtown vibe of London’s Soho and its Tokyo equivalent, Shinjuku, provide the inspiration for a vibrant concoction of dance and design, in a piece where the similarities and differences, the highs and the lows of the two cities are explored.
Fast-paced, street-wise and at times violent, the dancers take the audience on a global youth culture trip from a Soho club to the streets of Tokyo. With fashion designs by Dexter Wong, visual installation by Yang Wei Han, and original music by Belgian Geert Waegeman, From Soho to Shinjuku offers neon-lit images of the changing pace, shifting identities and uncertain values, stunningly danced by a cast of thirteen performers. These are the new cities, where East and West, work and leisure, young and old, traditional and new all jostle shoulders among the neon ads, the fast food and the street fashion.
