Paquita Grand Pas Classic (2010)
Synopsis
There have been many classical versions on the performance of Paquita Grand pas classic. In 1896 in Peterhof, Russia, Marius Petipa revised it for a celebratory performance in honor of Empress Catherine II. For that occasion Mathilde Kschessinska, prima ballerina of the Imperial Ballet, created an interpretation incorporating the classical variations or solos of several ballerinas. Thus began the tradition of embodying an entire suite of solos for various ballerinas in the same performance, a tradition which has continued till today.
In 1984, a new version of Paquita Grand pas classic was staged by American Ballet Theatre. Natalia Makarova choreographed the piece with music arranged by John Lanchbery. The popularity of this arrangement is testified by the fact that the company has retained this staging to date, while dance companies worldwide have also adopted her version.
