Filipino artist Igan D’Bayan’s painting was removed from the Asian International Art Exhibition, themed ‘Manifesting Diversity’ at Balai Seni Lukis for depicting “the secret part of a woman” by the curators of the show. The artist was “given several options: submit another (presumably less provocative) painting, cover the “offending area,” or stand by his work and be willing to face the consequences. The flummoxed artist replied that he would stand by what he had painted.” An image of the work remained in the catalogue. The artist was never formally notified about the removal of the work by the organisers.
