Dancer and choreographer Lee Swee Keong was performing on stage dressed in a Japanese fundoshi, when a DBKL officer, attending the opening night to conduct a ‘spot check’, attempted to stop the performance, on grounds of Lee’s ‘indecent’ outfit. The Actors Studio theatre manager negotiated with the officer, who allowed Lee to continue the full run, still clad in a fundoshi but one that was tied to conceal more of his posterior. Lee “… wore something like pampers for the next performances, just open the fabric bigger to cover the butt.” (Source: Lee Swee Keong).
