Nostalgia Laguku (1990)

Synopsis

This bilingual presentation tells the tale of the Malayan era after World War II, when the British and other Europeans featured very prominently in local society.

Hilmi, a young composer, joins a bangsawan group – Seri Bangsawan Bulan Bintang – led by Jaafar and performing in Malacca.

Jaafar tries to groom Himni and starlet Asiah, encouraging them to cultivate their fresh, new ideas and talent in the group, much to the displeasure of veteran composer Bahaman and his jaded star Khatijah.

Tension mounts and the situation is aggravated by a couple – Fatimah and Khir – who go all out to make things difficult for the unsuspecting Hilmi.

Suddenly, Jaafar finds himself torn between tradition and artistic progress and begins to discover that the road to hell is often paved with good intentions.
