DUA (TWO) Creations, the latest creation in a double bill by German choreographer, Ben J. Riepe and DDC’s Artistic Director, Wong Jyh Shyong (JS), is part of DPAC’s resident dance programme D for Dancing as well as DDC’s annual production in 2016.

Faces is JS Wong’s new work that contemplates the identity of one’s body culture. The creation looks at life and culture, where a contemporary lifestyle leads to a complex form of self-identity which is commonly shared in South East Asia: a mixture of one’s self and others, now and then, contemporary and traditional, East and West, and the extent of alienation and togetherness. Inspired by the use of contemporary and traditional masks in performing arts, the dancers cover and uncover their faces of identity, and deconstruct their dancing bodies as a way of communicating with oneself.
*The creation is advised by Ben’s dramaturge, Felizitas.

In HAHAHA, Ben J. Riepe focuses on the universal language of laughing, on which the intense dialog between the six dancers and the audience is based. The moments of infection and transition are becoming the main atmospheres of this choreography – of keeping and loosing the countenance! Within this performative etudes about the sounding relationship between the human body and the individual voice, Ben J. Riepe composed a symphony of laughter. Out of one single and trivial sound, variations of meanings and faces are conquering the space and our minds. As a joy. As a cry. As a play.
