While setting up a site-specific installation, “Under Construction” at BSVN for the KL Biennale, a group of five Malaysian artists from Pusat Sekitar Seni (PSS) and two Indonesians from Population Project noticed that elements of their found-objects work were missing. Before the official opening, they were informed by the curator that a public complaint had been made against their work, allegedly for containing elements of communism, leading to a police investigation. The artists were allegedly not allowed to touch their own work, save for draping a black net over it. All seven of them withdrew from the KL Biennale in protest.
